There was a sharp exchange of views between India and Pakistan during the summit of the Chairmen of the Parliaments of South Asian countries in Maldives over the withdrawal of special status of Jammu and Kashmir. The representatives of Pakistan raised the issue of Kashmir in the conference. He said, 'We cannot ignore the situation in Kashmir. People are being tortured there. The Indian delegation retaliated by raising objections.

Rajya Sabha Deputy Chairman Harivansh said that the country which massacred its own people on a large scale, has no moral right to speak on Kashmir. He also asked Pakistan to stop cross-border terrorism.

Harivansh further said that we strongly object to India's internal matter being raised in this forum. Apart from this, we also reject the politicization of this forum by raising issues other than the subject of the conference.

Even after this, there was a continuous onslaught from Pak side. On this, Mohammad Nasheed, the speaker of the Maldives Parliament, who is conducting the program, said that the internal matter of a country cannot be raised in this forum.


The Parliament of Maldives hosted the fourth South Asian Speakers Summit on the Sustainable Development Goal on Sunday. India was represented by Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla and Rajya Sabha Deputy Chairman Harivansh Narayan Singh.
